The Book Fair Cometh

I am the Chairperson for the Scholastic Book Fair at Thing One's school. This is my third year, so it is kind of old hat. BUT, we have entered our 4 week countdown. I am about to be very, very busy.

And I am feeling a little passive aggressive about it.

Which leads to major procrastination on my part.

Which leads to late nights and panic.

Which leads to eating junk food and snarking at my family.

I predict that:

In four weeks I will be composing a post about why I am never chairing the Book Fair again.

In one year I will be referring ruefully to this post as I put off organizing my Book Fair materials.

Hey, the Book Fair is coming up soon at my kids' school, too! I know this only because I just looked at their calenadar.

You are a kindred spirit. This is all too familiar. Love your writing . . .

Never organized the book fair, but every year the 2nd grade has a huge Thanksgiving feast-they press apples for cider, cook turkeys in an open pit, chop veggies, cut up bread for stuffing....at that age it falls mostly to the parents to supervise. It was fun to eat it all afterwards!(of course that was years ago for me...mine is in 10th now!)

Book Fairs, PTA meeting , room mothers and selling snowcones on fridays in the playground . I remember those days Steph. My four children keep me busy . But as much work as it can be they will remember you doing it. And it will mean the world to them when they are old enough to look back.
Now I get to watch and sometimes I even get to help as my daughters do it . It really does make a difference , and it teaches them to volunteer. Where would our world be without volunteers.

OMG when you said book fair I got so excited, I waited for the book fair every year at school, I loved it, I wish there were book fairs for grown ups.

Jenn,
I am the same way. Every year the book fair is a little more successful than the year before and I swear my family is sungularly responsible for its success.
It runs for a week and every day of the fair, my kids find more books they "need".

Oh, I'm the same way about being a Room Parent. Every year I say I won't do it and then I do. This year, however, I signed up to do the big school carnival, so hopefully that will keep my volunteering in check. Hopefully.

OMG: I could have typed this and simply inserted "room mom", "hockey fundraiser", etc in place of the book fair. It is so me.
