Boy Did I Drop the Ball

I think, at the age of 7, Thing One should know better than to whine for crackers while I am mid-sentence on the telephone. Shouldn't she?

Where did I go wrong?

I think the phone has an invisible aura only apparent to kids. As soon as a parent has engaged the telephone a huge banner that only kids can see flashes above said parent's head, saying, "Now is the BEST time to bug Mom! Be sure to ask for ice cream!"

Seriously! And similarly, everytime my mother comes over, as soon as it is apparent to my son that she and I are going to have a conversation, he starts yelling, "I need to talk, I need to talk, I need to talk....."

I look at him and think, "Where is this kid's mother and why hasn't she taught him any manners?" Then sadly I remember she is me.

steph, you make me chuckle, I'm sure it is difficult to find the humor in it at that very instant, but you've got to admit, and I think you do, it is kind of funny. He needs to talk, just like his mom.

She is afraid that someone is prior to you, instead of her. I think one nice conversation about "how things are" would not hurt :) She has to be convinced hat she is number one to you, even when you are not occupied with her 24/7.

We all are afraid that we are short of love, but we are "raised" not to show it :D

Oh, I hear ya'! Same happens here too. Can you say "focus your attention only on ME please"? :)
