One Local Summer - Week Ten

Last night we had fritatta with red, green and yellow peppers and basil. We liked it a lot more than the green pepper and onion fritatta of earlier in the summer. I think the basil was a great addition. A side salad of tomatos and cucumbers. Also sweet corn of the "Honey Treat" variety - seriously, so sweet it could be dessert, and cantelope. This was our first local cantelope of the summer and it made us wonder why we ever bother with non-local cantelope. Is it worth eating when it has no flavor? And I guess that is what we were meant to learn with this project.
I am finally getting around to reading Barbara Kingsolver's book and I am determined to grow some of our own food (beyond meadow tea) next summer. Of course, Geoff's response to this idea was: "You are aware that vegetable gardens need to be weeded, right?"

*Now* I know what to do with some of my peppers. A frittata! My stomach growls.

I really wish I lived closer - would love to work with you on a veggie garden. If it makes you feel any better - I hardly weed at all - it's all about the mulch.

C'mon down to Sugar Hollow - a lime-basil fizzy awaits! You would fit in perfectly. To make the lemon balm tea - just snip some off, put in hot water - steep for an hour. Add honey. Your little ones will love it.

It looks so good. I can just taste it!
I know what you mean about canteloupe and other melons that have no taste. Blah. It's hard for me to pick a good one.
Tell Geoff that you have plans for him and the kids to help! You know the little red hen and the grain of wheat, right? Well...there you go!

I've been wanting to read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle but haven't yet. I have so many books on my to-read list that I don't think I will EVER get to them all. Seriously.

The fritatta with red, green and yellow peppers and basil sounds divine! I know I would have loved the addition of the basil. Basil is my favorite! Love it!

I admire your One Local Summer. Neato!
